Big Boy Pond A Solomon Black Novel edition by JP Hall Sha Cole Jennifer Stephens Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This was a decent story. It took too long for it to get into the meat and potatoes of the story for me. The main characters played a dangerous game that resulted in a lot of lies and deceitful behavior. If part two picks up at the pace part 1 left off, I'll check it out
This was actually a good read. I'm a bit late with my review but man this story had so many twists and turns I didn't know what was going to happen next. I am very curious as to what is going to happen to Soloman and Milan. Things like this is why you don't mess with big time drug dealers or take the bait on something and have no idea what it is. Very well written. Though there were a few minor grammatical and spelling mistakes but luckily that didn't take away from the story itself.

Plot
An underprivileged man raises himself to the top of the California real estate world only to find that money, greed, lust and treachery rules there.
What I liked about this book
I’m a sucker for a good rise to power novel and this one is right up there with the best of them. Throw in lust murder, greed in exotic locations and the reader is in for an international adventure. I’ll admit that my attention span is short and I need a novel to hold my attention and this one did from the very beginning. Its fast place, the characters are interesting and most importantly the dialogue is believable.
What was my favorite part of the book?
This is not the kind book that you can break apart into favorite scenes because they all flow together so well to make one great story.
What did I disliked about the book?
Many things happen in this book and you have a lot of characters. It’s a long novel which isn’t a bad things. I much rather read something that is lengthy than the tons of ‘novels’ lately that are under 100 pages. Do to the length; at times you will find yourself trying to remember who is who. I think that less characters would have helped and saved some of them for book 2.
The ending
I loved it. The book starts out with violence and ends with life beginning.
Book rating
On a scale of one to five, this one gets a 4.0
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was intrigued by the concept of this book, and the first few chapters had me hooked, despite the high level of anxiety it caused me. However, with the right payoff, I can handle it when a book makes me anxious. Thrillers, by their very definition, are intended to put you on the edge of your seat.
But I quickly became very frustrated with the characters. The main character was naive and I felt so horrible for him as he was set up to take the fall, and I wanted to shake some sense into his wife. It was miserable to see her cave so quickly for someone who was so obviously of poor character. And unfortunately the ending did nothing to ease my anxiety.
It's well written and for those of you who love high intensity thrillers, I would recommend this book.
As this being the first novel by J.P. Hall; I am thoroughly impressed! The is a twisted tale of urban fiction, but not from a street perspective. No, JP, takes you to the boardroom where strategic business is the game and the most shrewd businessman will be the last man standing.
Solomon - A most endearing character that was truly slept on. He was intelligent, charming, an inquisitive. What he lacked in a physical sense, he made up for with knowledge and wit. He had a bad boy side to him that I definitely see being unleashed as the series progresses. I look forward to his character development.
Milan - I started out liking her character. The love story described of her and Solomon was beautiful and rare to find. I should have known this heffa was not perfect. In fact, she had a wicked side to her and was just a calculating as some of the men. Milan used her beauty to her advantage and to her dismay. She is the poster child for a woman who has an incredible man, relationship, but it's not enough. It's lacking that "bad boy" element. Well, all I can say is she got what was coming to her and even then; I felt no sorrow for her. The grass is not always greener, just water your grass more.
Jerome - Absolute womanizer and disgusting character. I couldn't stand him and his overly cocky personality. He had the gift of gab, along with gray eyes and used both qualities to the full extent of his power. I cannot wait for him to get a taste of his own medicine.
Nathan - He is a cunning and methodical character. He used his connections to rise to the top but it wasn't enough. His calm demeanor kept you wondering his true intentions and that alone had me on edge. Nathan had a plan, a backup plan, and another contingency plan. He was always trying to stay a step ahead. However, I have to say greed was his downfall, and a sexy lady named Bunny.
Bunny - A character who I thought was one person but by the end of the book; I wasn't sure. In fact, I don't know who she is and now I'm more intrigued than ever to find out who she really is and answers to.
Diego - This character introduced repeated shocks and twists. I loved his character and he kept the book most interesting with his mysterious mannerisms. I can't say too much as I don't want to drop spoilers.
J.P. Hall has a fan in me. I am excited to see what he will offer next. The story ends on a most peculiar note, so a sequel is imminent. If this book is an indication of what is to come, then his potential is set very high. I'm just not sure I can wait for it!!!
